definitely-- rustling in the woods on your walk home at night, eerie creaking noises in the middle of the night. although these things can be explained away, it still frightens some of us, depending on how we perceive it. this perception can vary from person to person because of several factors-- past experiences, state of mind, and other things. for example, if you just finished watching a scary movie, you are more apt to be afraid of sudden noises you hear. why? your state of mind has affected perception.
yes, our house was broken into once and ever since then when i hear a noise and im by myself or everyones asleep i automatically think that someone is breaking in. especially at night if its windy i might hear a tree branch brush against the window and instead of thinking logically i assume its something scary.
